Why a Signal QR code

Signal is where privacy-minded people, journalists, activists and many teams prefer to talk, yet adding someone there still means typing a number or searching for a username. A Signal QR code removes that step. Enter a phone number with its country code and the code builds the chat link Signal expects, with the number in international format. If you would rather not reveal your number, open your Signal profile, choose the QR code or link option, copy the username link and paste it here; group invitations from signal.group work the same way. A bare username cannot be opened by scanning, so the form asks for the link instead.

  • People reach your Signal chat in one scan instead of typing a number.
  • Username links keep your phone number out of sight.
  • Group invitations bring a whole room into one Signal group.
  • If you reset your username link in Signal, replace it in the code without reprinting.

Newsrooms and sources

Reporters print a username link on cards for people who want to share a tip privately.

Activists and organisers

Flyers invite supporters into a Signal group for coordination and updates.

Workshops and conferences

A slide with a group link gathers participants who want to keep in touch.

Small teams

Office posters help new colleagues join the team group on their first day.

Freelancers and consultants

Clients who prefer encrypted chat reach a consultant through the code on a proposal.

Signal QR Code Generator

A Signal QR code takes people straight to a chat with you or into your group. Signal builds username and group links itself, so for those you paste the link from the app; a phone number becomes a chat link automatically.

What is this QR code?

From a phone number, the code builds a signal.me chat link with the number in international format. Username links and group links (signal.group) copied from the app are kept exactly as Signal created them.

Best use cases

  • ✓Volunteer coordinators sharing a direct chat on printed name cards.
  • ✓A group invitation on the welcome sheet of a meetup or workshop.

How to generate your QR code

1

Decide what people should reach: your number, your username or a group.

2

Enter the number with country code, or paste the username or group link from Signal.

3

If you share a number, check the Signal privacy setting that lets people find you by it.

4

Scan with a phone that has Signal and confirm that the right chat or group opens.

Frequently Asked Questions

Why does a username alone not work?

Signal does not publish usernames as web addresses. The app creates an encoded link for your username, which you copy from your profile and paste here.

Will people see my phone number?

If you enter a number, yes: it is part of the link. To keep it private, share your username link instead.

What can I enter?

A phone number with country code, a username link copied from your Signal profile, or a signal.group invitation.

Why is my username rejected?

Signal usernames have no public web address. The app generates an encoded link for yours: copy it from your profile and paste it into the form.

Is my number visible in the code?

When you enter a number, it is part of the chat link, so anyone who scans can see it. A username link keeps it hidden.

Why does the number not find me?

In Signal's privacy settings you can stop people from finding you by phone number. In that case share your username link instead.

What does the visitor need?

Signal installed on the phone. Without the app, the link opens a Signal web page that suggests installing it.

Does QR Global see the messages?

No. Conversations happen in Signal with end-to-end encryption; we only know that the code was scanned.
